Study of patient satisfaction from nursing care and behaviors in Shahrekord ‎hospitals

Abstract:

Introduction: Gaining patient satisfaction is among important goals in health care system. &lrm;Nurses due to the type of their profession, have an essential role in providing satisfaction to &lrm;patients hospitalized in treatment centers especially hospitals. An efficient health care system &lrm;can only reach its mission, maintaining public health, through providing satisfactory care and it &lrm;can be assessed by assessing care provided.&lrm; &nbsp;Objective: This study was conducted to determine the level of hospitalized patients, &lrm;satisfaction of nursing care in educational hospitals in Shahrekord in &lrm;&rlm;2006&rlm;&lrm;.&lrm; &nbsp;Methods: This descriptive &lrm;&rlm;&ndash;&rlm;analytic study&rlm; &rlm;was done in two educational hospitals of Hajar and &lrm;Kashani and the level of satisfaction of &lrm;&rlm;223&rlm;&lrm; patients who were hospitalized for at least one &lrm;day was assessed by questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed by SPSS and descriptive &lrm;&rlm;&ndash;&rlm;analytic statistics such as frequency and chi &ndash; square.&lrm; Results: Findings of this study showed that &lrm;&rlm;70.4%&rlm;&lrm; of hospitalized patients were satisfied &lrm;with nursing care. Although &lrm;&rlm;8.9%&rlm;&lrm; were unsatisfied, &lrm;&rlm;12.7%&rlm;&lrm; had no view and &lrm;&rlm;7.7%&rlm;&lrm; stated &lrm;they had not encountered the items of the questionnaire. In dimension of most patient &lrm;satisfaction with nursing care were related to &ldquo; quick and on time admission&rdquo; (&lrm;&rlm;87%&rlm;&lrm;), on time &lrm;nursing care (&lrm;&rlm;85.7%&rlm;&lrm;), sympathy and kind nursing approach (&lrm;&rlm;84.8%&rlm;&lrm;) and most &lrm;dissatisfaction were related to &ldquo; encountering relatives and visitors&rdquo; (&lrm;&rlm;18.8%&rlm;&lrm;), &ldquo; reaction to &lrm;patients&rsquo; discomfort and pain&rdquo; (&lrm;&rlm;12.1%&rlm;&lrm;), and necessary follow up in time of problem solving &lrm;&lrm;(&lrm;&rlm;11.7%&rlm;&lrm;). There was a significant relationship (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.05&rlm;&lrm;) between age, place of living and &lrm;level of satisfaction. There was no relationship between other personal factors with patients&rsquo; &lrm;satisfaction.&lrm; Conclusion: In attention to results, it is necessary to have patients, satisfaction assessment &lrm;committee with cooperation of different level management and periodical assessment of &lrm;patients&rsquo; satisfaction and presentation of implementation programs to alleviate patients&rsquo; &lrm;dissatisfaction and in turn increase the quality on nursing care.&lrm;
